Looking To Get Away?

As I write this, we actually have Storm Callum licking at the house and threatening to upturn my flowerpots, but when I was looking through the Clickstay website for suitable places for a family of two with an infant to escape to (while staying close to our modest budget) we had a little burst of warm weather. While I’m not a fan of the stormy snaps we have, there’s something really blissful about a bit of sunshine in Autumn.

This is the time of year that everyone ends up daydreaming about a little bit of a getaway –  Christmas is just around the corner and the October half term signals the last major school break before the festive season. Personally, I prefer a good old ‘staycation’ as opposed to navigating trains, planes or boats and thankfully we have plenty of places to escape to right on our doorstep. The UK has a whole host of wonderful little places to offer when it comes to holidays, some more obvious than others. From the south coast to the wilds of Wales, there is somewhere for everyone whether you have an inner City Mouse or if you’re a Country Mouse like me.

There’s only one place that has my heart when it comes to escaping, and that would be Northumberland. Thankfully, there’s a selection of Clickstay cottages in Northumberland and each one is very affordable. I’ve fallen in love with Bluebell Cottage, in Rothbury – it isn’t hard to see why!

My favourite places in Northumberland are gems such as Lindisfarne and Holy Island (I have fond memories of the Causeway as a child) and some of the smaller towns that I visited with my Nanna growing up – Belford, Wooler and Bamburgh with its beautiful coastline and imposing castle. Rothbury isn’t so far from any of those destinations, so I’m sure I’d feel right at home there. Even the coastal resort of Seahouses is nearby, located just outside of Bamburgh meaning the choppy boat trip to the Farne Islands isn’t impossible – it offers you a glimpse into the birds that call the islands home, such as Puffins. The seal colonies are also favourites, usually giving visitors the once over, and if it’s pupping season you might get a glimpse at a fluffy white seal pup.

The Clickstay website is really simple to get to grips with. Enter your preferred destination, number of adults and children if you have little ones then begin your search. There’s a range of budgets to suit every pocket, and when you do click on a home to find out more it tells you all the vital information you could need: such as the number of people that can stay at a property, the amenities, and luxuries and most importantly – if there are places to eat and drink nearby.

It isn’t just staycations they offer either, if abroad is more your thing. From sunny beachside villas to apartments in cosmopolitan cities 69,000 listings spanning 80 countries are available on Clickstay so no matter what your preferred holiday choice you’ll be sure to find something!
