I’m sure that, like any prudent homeowner, you always take care of the interior of your home. In fact, the majority of homeowners always take very good care of their property interiors and are always eager to carry out any maintenance or small DIY jobs that may need doing in order to spruce up their rooms. However, when it comes to the company’s exteriors, it is often another story altogether. Sometimes homeowners can forget about jobs that need carrying out on their home’s exteriors, usually because they aren’t always so aware of what needs doing.
To ensure that your home’s exteriors aren’t neglected, here are a few jobs that you need to remember to do at least once a year to keep your home in good condition.
Clean Out The Drains
You need to try to keep on top of your property’s drains. If you don’t clean them out yourself or hire a firm that offers a drain cleaning service, then you run the risk of a blockage occurring. Once the drains are blocked, any water that collects in them will likely run over the sides and down the property’s walls. If this goes on for too long, you could end up with some structural water damage on your hands, and that can be very expensive to fix.
Clean The Patio Or Decking
If you have a patio or decking area in your garden, you will need to wash this every so often. If you leave it, then it will end up looking a bit worse for wear. In some extreme cases, mildew could build upon the wood or paving slabs, and that could make them very slippy. The easiest way to clean this type of flooring is to blast it with fresh water from your hose. If you don’t have the time for this job, you’ll be pleased to hear that some gardeners will offer this as a service.
Touch Up Exterior Paintwork
Paintwork on exterior walls will require regular touch ups, as it can become quickly worn or damaged when exposed to the elements. In order to keep up home’s curb appeal as good as possible, you should give these areas a quick touch up. You just need to go over the old paint with a fresh covering. However, after a few years, it will be best to strip away all of the old paintwork and start again from scratch.
Examine The Roof
Whenever you are outside your home, it’s always a good idea to look upwards and check out your roof. This gives you the chance to make sure that all of the shingles and tiles or slates are in position. If you notice any that are missing, you should then call a roofing firm to come and replace them for you. Examining your roof from down below is perfectly fine for spot checks, but you should use a ladder to carry out a closer inspection at least once a year.
