At this time of the year, we’re all starting to think a lot more about all of the things that we need to get done ahead of the warmer months. First comes the spring cleaning inside – but before long, you’re going to be thinking about what you need to do outside of the house too. As the evenings start to get lighter and our days last longer, it’s nice to think that we’re all going to be able to enjoy the outside a lot more. But before we can do that, there’s also a lot of work to do. So it’s also the time of year where you need to get out into your garden and get to work. Over the winter months, you’re going to find that your garden has had a bit of a mind of its own. And it’s time to change that.
Now, you could just cut everything back and that be all. But isn’t it more excited to go one step on from that? If you haven’t ever really worked on your outside space, it could have a lot of potential. And maybe you actually want to be able to do something with your garden? And you’ll be glad to know, there’s an awful lot that you can do. All you have to decide is how much work you’re prepared to put in! To inspire you, let’s take a look at some of the things that you might like to do to create a mecca in your garden this summer.
Have A Clear Out
The very first thing that you are going to want to do here, is to have a huge clear out of the space. If you seem to have accumulated a range of different things over the winter, or the garden has just gotten messy, it’s time to get tidying. Throw things out or go through the garage to get rid of anything that you no longer want or need.
But then, you’re going to want to think about cutting the garden back a bit. Sometimes, even clearing everything out just isn’t enough. If the garden is overgrown, then you’re going to want to sort this out. If it’s all overgrown and you haven’t touched the garden since last autumn, then you might want to get everything cut back – hire in someone to do it for you.
Sort The Lawn
The next job that you’re going to want to do here, is to think about taking better care of your lawn ahead of the warmer months. When it comes to lawn care, there’s a lot for you to do. So here, think about working on its health with lawn food and care products and then getting it all cut down and looking manicured and presentable too.
Clean The Patio
And then it’s time to tackle the patio. Over winter, and perhaps even over the previous summer, your patio may have gotten a little messy or dirty. It happens! So here, you’re going to want to get the jet washer out (or hire one) and give it a good blast. If the patio needs work or you don’t even have one yet, you’ll want to think about doing the work now, so that you have it ready for the summer too.
Create A Dining Space
From here, you’ll then want to make sure that you’re able to get a dining space together. Because that’s often what you want to do with your patio space if you haven’t already. Here, you might want to take a look at some outdoor dining spaces to inspire yourself. Think about what you can do to create a space that is perfect for your lifestyle and how you’re going to use the space.
Create A Cosy Space
The next kind of space that you’ll want is somewhere cosy. Because sometimes, having a dining space isn’t enough. You’ll want somewhere cosy that you can relax in and enjoy. So maybe you want some comfy seating or even a rose garden with a seat that you can enjoy? Just make sure that it’s somewhere that you really want to spend your time.
Create Something For The Kids
Another kind of space that you might want to think about creating is someplace for the kids. If you want to work with somewhere that they can play and have a lot of fun with, a giant swing set could be perfect. Or it could be wide grass areas with sandpits or different areas to bring games out over the summer. Then, they have a space to enjoy too!
Make Maintenance Easier
Next up, you’re then going to want to think about what you can do to make the maintenance of your garden much easier. And luckily for us all, there are a range of facilities from poly tanks to sprinkler systems that you could consider. You might even want to think about hiring a gardener to come and help you in the busier summer months if you know that mowing your lawn weekly is just going to be too much.
Nail Your Organisation
And then, you’re going to want to make sure that you’re keeping everything as organised as possible. If you have garden care equipment, make sure that it’s stored away safely in the shed or garage. Also, it can be a great idea to have a designated area for storing all of your outdoor dining equipment and apparatus for when you’re not using it too.
Get Out There More
Finally, you’re then going to want to make sure that you’re just getting out there and using the garden more. If you’re serious about creating a mecca, even you need to be drawn to the space. So do the spruces that you need to – but don’t overcomplicate anything. Instead, get out there and enjoy your morning coffee or let the kids play. The more you use your outside space, the more you’ll want to use it!
