Living Arrows | Twelve

The weather hasn’t been half as bad this week, so I’ve made sure we have gone on an adventure every single day. Whether it’s a small adventure to the local supermarket, the shops or a park adventure we’ve crammed lots in and made the most of the fresh air. Spending time with this guy is my favourite thing in the world to do, even on days where he hates everything — and he’s had a few of those this week.

I discovered he’s teething four molars all at once while having an exploratory poke around his mouth which explains a lot. He’s never been able to handle teething well, and these four are no exception. CBeebies and YouTube while not ideal have been something I’ve used while we are at home just to distract him and calm him while the Calpol works. None of the remedies that I used when he was an infant seem to have an effect anymore, I presume because he swallows or licks it away before it’s rested on the gum long enough? Although I’m pretty sure I read that teething gels have been taken off shelves as they aren’t effective, it seemed a shame to not try our luck with what we have left.

In other news, I have a tiny BB sized table and chair coming today.

He’s learned to climb out of his highchair like some sort of extra from Cirque du Soliel, and it gives me palpitations as he can do it so fast! No more coffee breaks while he’s eating dinner in the highchair for this woman. I’m not too sad about it as the chair itself was looking pretty grubby… We bought an Aldi one during the baby event, and while it’s lasted us 15 months it’s incredibly hard to clean and you can’t just take the wipe down part off to shove in the washer. While I anticipate my floor, the sofa and our shaggy rug are going to bear the brunt of not having a high chair to restrict BB from wandering around while eating… I think they’ll be easier to clean off than the chair!

Living Arrows

Living Arrows is about celebrating childhood and its trials & tribulations. The project originally took it’s name from a poem by Kahlil Gibran, “You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth” and each Monday I’m going to share a moment from our week. Over the course of 52 weeks, I’ll have a series of snapshots built up which shows my little boy blossoming!

  • Both mine really suffered with teething too – I second Anbesol liquid, it works almost instantly so it shouldn’t matter if he licks it (I use it myself sometimes). Just to give you a little bit of hope for the future though – my eldest is getting his 6 year molars at the moment and they aren’t bothering him at all! #LivingArrows

  • Oh I loved the arrival of teenie tables and chairs! It’s a game changer. I hope his teething is going ok and he isn’t too grouchy with it. And well done on the adventures! x

  • I used teething granules or Ashtons and Parsons powder when mine were teething but I’m not sure if they do those anymore? I hope it eases up for you soon #LivingArrows

    • Oh I used those when he was much younger, I haven’t actually tried him on them now he’s older. I’ll pick some up tomorrow and let you know! 🙃🤞🏻
