I feel like this post should be a post congratulating all toddler parents for getting through the heatwave. For surviving the scorching weather the UK was blessed with and coming out of the other side. But it’s not, because we didn’t survive very well and we still aren’t 100%!
Mike came home incredibly sick after work last week, and I immediately thought it was heat stroke so sent him to bed with water. It had a hold of him for a few days, and then he was starting to get back to normal when BB suddenly started vomiting. Now, I’m a lucky mum really — BB has never ever thrown up. Until this, obviously. But we had a night of exorcist-style sickness, arguing with Mike about not buying 250 cotsheets to prepare for this eventuality and no sleep.
The next night, I counted my blessings that the littlest Button seemed to be getting better when.. Well, I started. It was inevitable really, having spent the nights previously covered in sick or poo. The highest point of parenthood I’ve experienced so far: breastfeeding BB, while throwing up into a bowl next to me causing him to unlatch and belly laugh at the retching noises I was trying not to make.
The photo I’ve chosen for this week is one I took yesterday on the way to the Doctors. Because we’ve been quite sick, the poor little guy is restless so I let him burn off some of that with a walk, next to the pram. He adores being independent but doesn’t get much chance to do that, even on reins.. So letting him ‘free-range’ was a cure for many of his ills!
Living Arrows is about celebrating childhood and its trials & tribulations. The project originally took it’s name from a poem by Kahlil Gibran, “You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth” and each Monday I’m going to share a moment from our week. Over the course of 52 weeks, I’ll have a series of snapshots built up which shows my little boy blossoming!
