When you want to enjoy some time out and away from things, there’s nothing quite like the idea of heading out into the countryside and getting away from it all. This can especially be the case if you live and work in a busy city. Because as much as a cosmopolitan lifestyle can be enjoyable, it can also be a bit full on. But you don’t have to jump on a plane in order to get some peace. In fact, the UK has some of the most amazing spots for you to relax and just be yourself in. Hooked already? Read on to discover some of the places that you should be thinking of heading to.
First of all, there’s South Wales to consider. When you live and work in a major British city, it’s easy to think of the central countryside areas, such as the home counties, to consider for your break. But as soon as you remember that you have some of the most amazing natural beauty in our nearest neighbouring country. So look into Gower cottages or Swansea cabins and book your stay. A walk on the beach followed by a traditional pub lunch and a night sat next to the fire is always going to draw you in.
Hoping over the welsh border and into one of the most idyllic spots around the country, we have The Cotswolds to consider for your countryside retreat too. Spanning most of Gloucestershire, some of Oxfordshire, and Wiltshire too, there are a wealth of towns and villages to see. Whether you choose to stop at a sweet village like Bourton on the Water, or somewhere bigger like Cheltenham, you’re sure to enjoy a ‘best of British’ style of time out.
Heading further south and down to the most southern part of the country, we arrive in Cornwall. And when you want a traditional seaside experience in the UK, there’s nowhere better to be. Here’s there are some really stunning spots to explore. From St. Ives in all it’s classic coastline glory to Fowey, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, there’s a wealth of culture, history, and of course, peace and quiet to be found in the part of the country.
And now we’re going to go north. Because up north, there are some of the country’s best kept secrets when it comes to peaceful places. There are some incredibly pretty villages in Yorkshire. So retreat to Hutton-le-Hole or Muker to find some of the most gorgeous areas, free your mind, and take in everything the countryside has to offer.
The Lake District
And how could we compile a list of the best areas to be and NOT include the Lake District? This part of the country is one of the most stunning of all. And if you’ve never been, you’re going to want to make it your next stop. There’s plenty to do here. From mountain walks to take in some of the most striking sights the country has to offer, to a cruise on the lake, there’s an abundance of ways to take it easy and enjoy yourself.
